This project involved the replacement of an existing under utilised conservatory with a new more practical rear extension, to accommodate an open plan kitchen/living space. It was important that the new extension strengthened the dwellings relationship with the rear garden and maximised natural light internally - To achieve this, a large set of bifolding doors where installed with a level threshold so to allow the interior space to flow out to the exterior, along with three large rooflights to allow light to filter in. Another aspect that was of great importance, was for the extension to compliment the existing architectural style of this period property, hence the use of reclaimed bricks and traditional detailing such as the 'brick on edge' parapet and brick 'soldier courses'.
