Sky Residence
Location: Belsize Park
Type: Residential
Stage: Complete
Brief: Roof Extension and Renovation

This residential project involved the addition of a roof extension and a rear extension to the existing closet wing of a four-storey mid-terrace period property, providing additional internal accommodation and significantly enhancing the overall functionality of the home. The interventions were carefully designed to work within the constraints of the existing structure while maximising the potential of the building envelope.
In parallel with the external works, the property underwent a comprehensive internal refurbishment. The existing layout was reconfigured to create a more efficient and coherent arrangement, resulting in a contemporary, minimalist interior that sits in contrast to the building’s original period fabric. The design approach focused on improving spatial flow, natural light penetration, and the overall quality of the living environment throughout all levels of the house.
A key aspect of the scheme was the addition of an extra storey, which introduced new accommodation at roof level and fundamentally expanded the capacity of the property. This upper-level extension was complemented by the introduction of two new roof terraces, which provide valuable external amenity spaces at height.
These terraces not only enhance the usability of the upper floors but also offer far-reaching panoramic views across north-west London, significantly improving the experiential quality of the home. The integration of internal and external spaces at roof level creates a strong connection between living areas and the wider city context.
Overall, the project successfully combines increased floor area with improved spatial quality, delivering a refined and contemporary family home within a constrained urban setting.
