Clarence House
Location: St Albans
Type: Residential
Stage: Complete
Brief: Front extension, garage conversion, and complete refurbishment

The clients for this project had recently acquired this period property, located within a conservation area close to Clarence Park in St. Albans. The existing dwelling required a comprehensive reconfiguration to improve the functionality of the internal layout, maximise usable space, and establish a more coherent and efficient flow throughout the property.
In addition to the internal alterations, the project included a series of extensions alongside the conversion of the existing garage, significantly increasing the overall internal floor area. These interventions were carefully planned to enhance the practicality of the home while responding sensitively to the architectural character of the original building and its conservation area setting.
The design approach considered the property as a whole, ensuring that the new additions integrated seamlessly with the existing structure. Particular attention was given to improving natural light penetration, circulation routes, and the relationship between key living spaces, resulting in a more open and functional family home.
Externally, the proposals were developed to sit comfortably within the established streetscape, respecting the scale, proportions, and materiality of neighbouring properties.
