Brief: Conversion of Office to High End Residence, including Basement Conversion

This project involved the change of use and comprehensive refurbishment of an existing office building to create a high-quality family home within a designated Conservation Area in central London, close to Victoria Station. The brief was to transform the property into a contemporary residence that would provide generous family accommodation while respecting the character and setting of the surrounding historic townscape.
The internal layout was carefully reconfigured to provide four bedrooms, including a spacious principal suite complete with a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom, together with three additional bathrooms serving the remainder of the dwelling. Particular attention was given to creating a strong sense of openness and connectivity throughout the home, while maximising natural daylight within the constraints of the existing structure.
A key design intervention was the conversion of the existing basement into a contemporary open-plan kitchen and family space. To enhance the quality of light at this lower level, a new mezzanine was introduced within the living and dining area above, creating a visual connection between floors and allowing natural light to filter deep into the heart of the home. This intervention transformed the basement from a secondary space into a bright and integral part of the dwelling.
The completed design delivers a refined and elegant family home that combines contemporary living with sensitive adaptation of the existing building, creating a high-end residence tailored to modern lifestyles while respecting its conservation area setting.
